The Atlantic has a current story on the likelihood of increased responsibilities for nurses and other midlevel providers.
The article uses Dentists as an example. As Dentists saw more Medicaid patients more work was offloaded to dental hygienists. With the Affordable Care Act putting more of the country into commercial (and governmental) health plans it’s likely physicians will have to lean more on nurses to handle the work load.
As States begin to recognize this need and reform nursing laws the effects will spread across the country. More responsibility predates more liability, ensure your insurance is adequate for additional exposure.
