Illinois Malpractice Premiums for Full Time Employed Registered Nurses
The Land of Lincoln is known as one of the worst malpractice climates in the state. However, with hospitals absorbing the bulk of adverse verdicts nursing insurance rates have remained low. Several attempts at tort reform have attempted to change the state’s joint and several liability – which could make someone found 1% liable responsible for an entire verdict – but to no avail. The state allows for suits up to two years from when the patient knew of the injury, up to 4 years after the event. There is an exception for minors with suits allowed eight years after the event up to the person’s twenty second birthday.
